NJ Transit Introduces “Outdoor Seating” As New, Affordable Option for Riders

April 1, 2010

After hearing an earful from angry commuters about NJ Transit’s coming service cuts and fare hikes, transit officials have responded, introducing a new, lower cost travel option for those commuters concerned about cost. The so called “Fresh Air Fare” will give commuters the option of paying half price for their ticket, in exchange for relinquishing a seat within the train car, and instead clinging to the roof or window during the trip.

“We know these fare hikes are hard on commuters, especially during this economy. We introduced this new service to give commuters options and help them keep their costs down.” said Skip Randolph, spokesman for NJ Transit. “With this exciting new option, not only will travelers be able to liven up their normally dull commutes, but they’ll be saving money too!”

“It’s certainly something I would consider” said Guy Anderson, who commutes to New York from his home in Matawan. “I’m always looking to save a little money, especially these days. The tunnels would be a bit harrowing I would think, but otherwise, who doesn’t enjoy a little fresh air after a long day of work?”

It seems like you have a lot of reach in the New Jersey area. We wanted to let you know of a contest we’re currently holding for the school systems. If you could help out – even by just mentioning it – it would be greatly appreciated!

BlueWater and Cisco have teamed up to offer a wireless makeover to one deserving school district. If they can tell us in 500 words or less how they would use mobility technology to unplug their school – they’ll have the chance to win a wireless makeover worth up to $35,000!

They can visit to enter the challenge!

Thank you and keep up the great work!
